Worldwide Meteorological Honors

​The American Meteorological Society (AMS) has honored AccuWeather’s Chief Executive Officer, Barry Lee Myers, with the prestigious Kenneth C. Spengler Award.

The Kenneth C. Spengler Award has been awarded to Myers, “For outstanding, highly principled leadership of the American weather industry over five decades and fostering strong cooperation between private sector and government weather services.”

The award is a reflection of Myers’ unparalleled, long-standing commitment to the AMS and to the greater meteorological community on a global scale. Myers said, “What we have and will continue to accomplish through industry and government cooperation – and through AccuWeather’s innovative leadership – will help set the stage for the future of the weather community in the U.S. and throughout the world.”


The Kenneth C. Spengler Award will be presented to Myers at the AMS Annual Meeting in January 2015.As the global leader in weather information, Mr. Myers and AccuWeather are committed to contributing leadership, expertise, and collaborative partnerships that benefit the worldwide meteorological community. For example, AccuWeather demonstrated this commitment by taking a leadership role at the United Nation’s sponsored World Weather Open Science Conference (WWOSC).

AccuWeather sponsored WWOSC and the meteorological community as the only Silver Sponsor, and was the highest ranking sponsor by a business company. Myers spoke in a special session and panel presentation on the “Future of the Weather Enterprise.”
